Wow, that’s some awesome cosplay. Bizarrely the DCnU Black Canary costume looks better in real life than in the comics. Who knew?
It is almost offensive how amazing some of these cosplay photo shoots are becoming. Good lord.
LOOK at that! Amazing job from everyone concerned!
One of the many, many reasons why I miss pre-new52 Birds of prey.
Some people feel fortunate that they get to write Spider-man, or Batman, or whomever. That’s fine, I get it.
But I got to write Zinda, Helena, Dinah, Babs, and Charlie in ONE BOOK.
This scene always cracks me up.
So, without dwelling too much on the why’s, I was, at one point going to be the artist on Birds of Prey with Gail Simone back in 2010. Unfortunately before I was set to begin, it was leaked to Bleeding Cool on Saturday and by Monday morning I was out of a job and ended up on Zatanna. These were the sketches i did to get prepared for the book.
Dinah in particular was going to be of interest to me because the plan was for her to become an even bigger badass fighter than she already is. The idea was, she would never open her coat unless she was in a fight. It would be a visual cue so that the reader knew, when she did, someones ass was about to be whooped.
I was disappointed, because i’d been wanting to work with Gail for years, and she fought for me to be on the book in the first place.
So I gave these to Gail as a gift. I love Gail and will back her play any day.
DC announced this morning that Birds of Prey will be going in a new direction, so new that the writer they announced in December is already off the book. Indie writer Jim Zub had been announced as taking over the book with issue 17 from Duane Swierczynski. But with the solicits for April hitting this morning DC revealed to CBR that Christy Marx would instead be writing the book. Zub also told readers on his blog he was off the book.
I was looking forward to Zub’s take on the book but I can’t complain about his successor, Christy Marx, who has been doing good work on Sword of Sorcery’s Amethyst.
But it does give me another thing to put on the list of “what the heck is going on with DC editorial?”. The company also today announced Robert Vendetti was off Constantine to be replaced by Jeff Lemire and Ray Fawkes. Again can’t complain there (expecially as the team is writing Justice League Dark). And of course late last year DC removed Gail Simone off of Batgirl only to put her back on the book.
Now these pages are a Big Damn Heroes trope if i’ve ever seen one and i loved every second of it, Take that Spysmasher
Birds of Prey 108, from Gail Simone’s run
so Ev is also a Wondy fangirl
That thing they say about good taste and all that.
Also, apparently everyone in Gotham City is totally infatuated with Wonder Woman.
What the hell does that say about Batman? Hmmm…
Everybody loves Wondy.

These few pages are some of my favorite in comics. I love when Dinah kisses Bruce and he’s just like, “you’re weird” and flies off into the night. Then Helena is just “ooh girl I’m jelly, was he good?”
(A few of) the awesome women of Birds of Prey. With bonus Creote and Savant!
I’d love to see a Barda cameo in the New 52 Birds of Prey!
